This is why ‘Moo Shu’ is my favourite place for Ice Cream in Ottawa
The presence of Moo Shu’s special aura can be testified by simply having a glance at the never ending waiting lines surrounding the store. The extraordinary difference to their competitors is, Moo Shu’s flavors are named after cheeky political references, like “not my cheeto” and “free healthcare” which never fails to bring me to a chuckle. The names can also cause a bit of confusion at the same time, as they are not the typical, self-explanatory flavor names. This confusion doesn’t affect them though, as the staff explain the flavors with a real passion and understanding tone. “Hong Kong Milk Tea” is the most celebrated flavor of Moo Shu, this is because natives say it flawlessly replicates the authentic milk tea from Hong Kong.
“It was really nice of the owner to let us be the last customers for the night despite closing the shop. I tried a taste of the lime leaf and fresh mint flavored ice cream and it was very refreshing. Definitely recommend this place!”
writes Edster, giving a 5-star Yelp rating in his review. Brenda, an elite member on Yelp, rated 5-star,
“I loved that their cone was crunchy, thin, crispy, and almost see-thru. It was extremely unique and is like no cone I’ve had at other ice cream places. On Wednesdays, they do puff-waffles (eggettes) or what they call ‘bubble waffles’ in fun flavors like earl grey.”
Moo Shu Ice Cream has an overall rating of 4.5 on Yelp and 4.7 on Google with over 500 reviews.
Opening hours are 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM for Mondays, and 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM for every other day, except for Tuesdays, as they are closed because of Tiw. Also, they close an hour earlier on Sundays. Unfortunately, there is no arrangement for outdoor seating, but, the indoor environment is comfortable and rather quaint. The interior comprises of a tall communal table and one window high table with 2 bar stools.
If you are in Ottawa, whether for business or pleasure, Moo Shu is a great place to visit. I’m warning you though, even a single visit to Moo Shu, will create a lifelong fondness for this place, in your heart.
